How to Beat Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) in Nigeria
Many top recruitment firms and organizations in Nigeria (such as Jobberman, KPMG, MTN, and major fintech providers) use computerized **Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS)** to screen CVs before they ever reach a human hiring manager. If your resume does not score a high keyword match threshold, it will be automatically filtered out.
Three Rules of ATS-Optimized Formats
To ensure your CV parses cleanly without rendering issues:
- Avoid Multi-Column Layouts: Visual table structures or side-by-side columns often cause parsing errors, blending your contact details with your technical experience text. Use clean, single-column formats.
- Integrate Exact Keywords: If the job advertisement specifies “SQL database auditing”, do not just write “database experience”. Write the exact keyword phrase to trigger positive parsing points.
- No Images or Graphics: Never place your skill levels in rating bars or graphic icons (e.g., “SQL: 4 out of 5 stars”). Automated readers cannot process graphic values, treating your skill index as zero.
